 Musical Direcor - Nigel Beasley
Nigel studied euphonium under Geoff Whitham as one of the 10 people in the first year of the Brass Band musicianship course at Salford. Allan Withington and Ian Barker [solo baritone with the Band] were also among the original students.
Having played with the POEU Band in Stockport and Mirrlees Works, Nigel then joined Wingates Temperance in 1978 on solo baritone, where he stayed until 1981, taking up a similar position with the Fodens Motor Works Band. After 3 years he moved back to Wingates where he remained for a further 9 years.
Early in 1993 Nigel accepted the invitation to join the William Fairey Band and play 2nd baritone next to his long time friend Peter Christian. That year saw the band achieve a magnificent "Double" at the British Open and National Championships with the European Title adding to the success 7 months later. Under the baton of James Gourlay the Band achieved further successes at the British Open and All England Masters. In 2002 Nigel was able to renew his companionship with Allan Withington who guided the Band to two consecutive National Championship victories in 2002 and 2003.
In 2004 Nigel retired from playing and took a break from the banding movement until taking up the offer to conduct Hazel Grove in late 2007.
